Welcome to Oral Bible

Perhaps you are wondering why such a strange name for a website. The name describes a phenomenon many are seeing happen among oral communicators who are learning Bible stories. As the name and slogan say: It is the Word of God Hidden in One's Heart.

The Bible is a book that brings to us today God's words spoken to peoples long ago but also to us today. To access what the book has to say, one must either read it for themselves or have someone read it or tell it to them. The issue of widely prevailing orality and its accompanying nonliteracy is what makes Oral Bible an urgency.

This website is dedicated to fostering the development of Oral Bible among the oral communicators who learn best by hearing and those who may never be able to read the Bible as a book.

The term Oral Bible was not an intentional term but was originally just an observation about what was happening among those listeners who were hearing Bible stories. After hearing the stories the listeners were repeating the stories to others and recalling the stories in the daily course of their lives so that the stories could speak to their hearts from the inside.

I intend to explore a bit of the history and use of this Oral Bible phenonmenon and some ways that can help it to happen.

There are also some cautions that those of us who are literate and are teachers need to consider in terms of how the Bible is presented for oral communicators to learn it and about the issue of whether the whole counsel of God is available for oral communicators.
